Em DeMaio (she/her) is a multi-hyphenate theatre professional based in Chicago, originally from New York, she made the move to the Windy City after the pandemic and (despite her mother’s best efforts) never looked back.

A proud Jewish artist, Em comes from a tradition where storytelling is more than an art form. It’s a way of connecting, questioning, remembering, and making sense of the world. She’s excited by work that is messy, surprising, deeply human, and a little bit weird.

Em has had the joy of working with theatre companies across the country, including Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, American Players Theatre, Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, Olde School Shakespeare Collective, Denizen Theatre, and many more. She is a co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of Circuit Theatre Company, a Chicago-based ensemble dedicated to reimagining classical theatre and creating space for more voices at the table.

When she’s not making theatre, Em is probably running along the Lake Michigan, trying a new coffee shop, or giving her dog Olive relentless attention.
